Following a significant fire in the Norman Robinson Stand at Caulfield Racecourse, AR Environmental was engaged by Insuraplex to undertake asbestos remediation works on behalf of the Melbourne Racing Club. Over 500 m² of asbestos-containing cement sheet ceiling, rendered friable by intense heat from the fire, required removal
Safe removal and disposal of fire-affected friable asbestos-containing materials in accordance with friable (Class A) removal standards and controlled conditions.
Successful containment of contamination risk through full enclosure and scaffold-based access, protecting adjacent areas and stakeholders.
Clearance of the affected lower-level ceiling areas, enabling Insuraplex to complete structural and architectural reinstatement works.
The Norman Robinson Stand was reinstated to its pre-fire standard and made available in time to support the Caulfield Spring Racing Carnival schedule, preserving continuity of major racing events for the Melbourne Racing Club.
500 m² contaminated material removed
We followed our structured, methodical process to ensure safe outcomes across this project.

Comprehensive site inspections identify asbestos-containing materials, assess exposure risks and determine the most appropriate removal or abatement strategy.

Affected areas are sealed and controlled to prevent fibre spread, with clear separation from occupied or operational zones.

Asbestos materials are removed using controlled techniques and transported to licensed facilities using EPA-approved disposal methods.

All work areas are thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated, followed by clearance testing and certification to confirm the site is safe for reoccupation.
